HWWL aims to foster partnerships with local businesses and industry.

We aim to get businesses and schools to work together more closely so that young people gain knowledge of particular industries and industry gets to develop their potential future workforce.

By linking in with HWWL:

  • You get the opportunity to try before you buy
  • You are able to develop your future labour pool
  • You assist local youth into future careers (win-win)
  • You join other employers to help the North to grow
  • You shape the workskills of students to benefit you both NOW and in the future

We assist you by offering three options for work placement:

Structured Workplace Learning (SWL)
School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT)
Work Experience

Structured Workplace Learning (SWL)

  • can be 1 day per week
  • can be in block format (1 or 2 wks at a time usually around school holidays up to a maximum of 40 days per year)
  • tied to a VET program that is part of Yr 11 and 12
  • paid min per $5 day
  • will be working towards gaining a formal qualification
  • students actively work and contribute to the workplace

School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT)

  • usually 1 day p/week
  • commencement of Apprenticeship or Traineeship under a formal Training Contract
  • tied to formal training run through an RTO such as a Tafe
  • gain a recognised qualification
  • paid under an Award according to industry
  • students actively work and contribute to the workplace

Work Experience

  • in block form (usually 1 – 2 weeks at a time)
  • gives the student a “taste” of the workplace
  • usually students at yr 10 level
  • paid min $5 p/day
